Some comedy podcasts chase headlines. Some chase guests. Some chase that desperate, slightly sweaty feeling of trying to go viral by shouting into a microphone. Larry, thankfully, chases stories. Real ones. The kind that start with a normal Tuesday and end with somebody accidentally wearing a waiter’s apron into a police interview. That is the magic of True Tales with Larry . It lands in a sweet spot that a lot of shows miss. It is not just a larry comedy podcast, and

Some people win the cosmic lottery by getting handed stories no reasonable adult would volunteer for. They miss a flight, then meet a future spouse at the airport bar. Their car gets towed, then the tow truck driver turns out to be an amateur magician with opinions about raccoons. They lose a shoe at a wedding, catch the bouquet anyway, and somehow become the hero of a family group chat that usually exists only for passive-aggressive casserole logistics. Those people are

There is a very specific kind of podcast listener who does not want polished think pieces, wellness chatter, or two strangers saying “that’s crazy” into expensive microphones for ninety minutes. That listener wants stories. Real ones. Stories with missed flights, family disasters, weird jobs, bad decisions, restaurants that should have been shut down by noon, and one friend who absolutely should not have been trusted with the keys. There is a special kind of silence that follows a truly ridiculous real-life story. Not the bored silence. That silence is where a true stories podcast earns its keep. R

There is a special kind of chaos that only happens in a comedy storytelling podcast. Not the polished kind, where everyone hits their marks and lands the tag exactly where the producer circled it in red. I mean the real thing, the moment a perfectly normal setup takes one wrong turn and suddenly the host is wheezing, the guest is confessing to a minor crime from 2009, and the original point has been left on the shoulder of the highway about three exits back. Those are th

There is a special kind of comedy that does not feel written so much as survived. You hear a guy start a story with, “So I was only trying to return a garden hose,” and five minutes later there is somehow a municipal peacock, a suspicious pharmacist, and a child in a Batman cape giving legal advice. That territory belongs to Larry. The charm of Larry’s humor has never been that he tells neat little jokes with a polished ribbon on top. It is that he seems to wander into s
